Diners Club International was the first independent payment card business in the world, and is known for creating the concept of a stand-alone credit card business. It was the first independent payment card company in the world, successfully establishing the financial card service of issuing travel and entertainment (T&E) credit cards as a viable business. 

Diners Club does not have the same widespread acceptance as its competitors but it is favored by business travelers due to its access to numerous airport lounges around the world.
